The Challenge
The current VRT building no longer meets modern construction standards, limiting its ability to support the evolving needs of a dynamic media landscape. To maintain its position as a competitive and future-oriented broadcaster, VRT made the strategic decision to construct an entirely new building that meets today’s functional requirements while anticipating future innovations in production and broadcasting.
The Solution
As part of the design-build consortium, Tractebel acted as a full engineering partner for VRT’s new headquarters. Our multidisciplinary expertise covered structural engineering, electrical systems, sanitary installations, fire safety, acoustics, and energy solutions, including geothermal systems and the GRO sustainability assessment tool. We also ensured the building’s environmental performance and designed the data center, a critical component of VRT’s digital infrastructure.
The Impact
The result is a compact, high-performance building that integrates seamlessly into its natural surroundings while minimizing its environmental footprint. Thanks to Tractebel’s integrated engineering approach, the new VRT headquarters not only meets ambitious sustainability objectives but also provides a future-ready environment that supports innovation and operational excellence in public broadcasting.
A compact, open, and dynamic multimedia center has been designed, where creativity takes center stage. The building stands out as a benchmark for user comfort, energy efficiency, and adaptability.
